MOTHER'S DAY 2026: REFLECTIONS FROM USUMANI

[El Amor de Mamá]

As a female-led brand, we’ve always been shaped by the women around us. And motherhood, in all its forms, is such a big part of that.

So for this Mother’s Day, we’re turning the spotlight towards our community, sharing a series of personal reflections on motherhood and the women who raised us, shaped us, and continue to inspire us every day.

This ‘El Amor de Mamá’, and next up is, Usumani Kamba.

Usu is one of those people who's a ray of sunshine. She's a model, trained pedagogue, but also the son to two very special women - Charlotte, and his bonus mom, Ulla.

Usu carries a story shaped by movement, care, and the people who showed up for him along the way.

Originally from Congo, he grew up in Uganda before arriving in Denmark as a child. There, he not only had his own mother by his side, but also found another — Ulla. Two mother figures, and two spaces where he was held and cared for.

There’s a gratitude in the way he speaks about family, a deep understanding of love as something that expands, but also makes space.

This is Usu's reflections - on motherhood and the women who became his anchors.

When you think about motherhood, what comes to mind?

Unconditional love. A place where you can always be a child, no matter how grown you are. It’s where love begins. I’ve been lucky to have two mothers, two airports to land in.

My mom always said that parents are the airport, and children are the planes. You’re sent out to explore the world, but whenever something happens, you can always come back and land safely. Whenever I need to recharge, I return home to both of them.

I’ve always felt there was space for me, no matter how difficult things were. I was met with love, acceptance, and the feeling that I am enough. With them, I’ve always believed that everything will be okay.

What did your mom teach you about love or family?

That even when the world feels hard, there is always somewhere to come home to. A place where you can relax, be yourself, and just exist.

My mom showed me what true love looks like, putting your child’s needs above your own. When we came to Denmark, she trusted others to help where she couldn’t. She allowed Ulla to step in with knowledge and care, to give me opportunities she couldn’t provide alone.

That kind of trust, letting go so your child can receive what’s best for them, is the greatest act of love.

Is there a flower that reminds you of her? Why?

Although I wouldn’t call myself a flower person, I have send flowers to my moms when I've wanted to show love. My mom is incredibly strong, she’s been through so much, and she carries our story with pride. So if I had to choose one flower, she’s like the bougainvillea — strong and colorful.

And my bonus mom, Ulla, she has been such a constant — making sure I never lacked anything, always showing up, always supporting. For her, I would pick a strong tulip.

A special memory of being in nature together?

When I was younger, we would often sit together on the terrace as a big family, with my nieces playing nearby. Later, in Denmark, summers in my mom’s garden in Tønder is what comes to mind — my father still with us.

But also, I think of me and my mom  who would sometimes go out together to collect sweet potatoes from the fields. Just the two of us. That was our time and it taught me that life can be simple, that you can find what you need in nature, and in each other.

With Ulla and Henrik, it’s the calm I remember. Just being there, resting, feeling safe.

Both places, both homes, give me a sense of peace.
